TITLE: Transportation Supervisor
PAY GRADE: Classified Salary Schedule
SUPERVISOR: Finance Director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 246 Days Per Year
Under the supervision of the Finance Director, the Transportation Supervisor coordinates and supervises the provision of safe and efficient pupil transportation for the School District in collaboration with schools and parents. The position is also in charge of the daily transportation functions, including, but not limited to, planning, directing, coordinating and overseeing all functions pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the District transportation department.
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Effective skills in communication required. Competent with current technologies and possess the ability to understand and embrace technological advancements. Substantial experience driving with a Commercial Driver's License required. Valid Driver's License and CDL required at all times. Experience in supervising or coordinating the work of a team. Ability to work flexible hours as the position requires.
The employee is responsible for the supervision and coordination of bus drivers, mechanics and administrative staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. * Manages and monitors the daily activity of the Transportation Department to ensure compliance with federal, state and District regulations and policies.
* Responsible for the daily operation of the Transportation Department.
* Works collaboratively with District leadership, building administrators, staff and families.
* Responsible to understand and follow school district policies.
* Supervises and conducts annual performance evaluations of Transportation Department staff.
* Responsible for training Department staff in accordance with the State Department of Education and State of Idaho regulations and laws, and District-required training.
* Initiates and regularly reviews bus routes and schedules, making on-site observations and recommendations for any route changes.
* Reviews and inspects all bus loading zones and stops throughout the District to ensure safety of all students and staff.
* Works in coordination with the Superintendent and District Leadership to develop and implement safety and discipline programs for Transportation staff and students.
* Prepares and maintains all necessary records and reports as required, including reports to the State Departments of Education and Transportation.
* Reviews and approves Transportation personnel payroll documents.
* Reviews and approves requisitions, purchase orders and invoices as needed.
* Prepares bid specification for bus and other Transportation Department vehicle procurement.
* Monitors operations to ensure compliance with budget guidelines and State Department of Education accounting regulations.
* Develops and maintains an ongoing preventative maintenance program for District vehicles in accordance with State regulations.
* Attends all meetings, conferences, and training sessions as necessary to remain abreast of changes and trends in all areas relating to this position.
* Advises Superintendent on road conditions for decision on school closure during inclement weather.
* Investigates all school bus accidents, evaluates cause and submits reports with recommendation as to any disciplinary action and/or comments on how the situation can be prevented in the future. Completes and submits insurance reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of and meets all requirements for a bus driver as defined by Idaho State Law and the Department of Education, including possession of current and valid CDL. Knowledge of basic math skills including the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of multiple units of measure. Skill in communicating with District staff and patrons. Skill in presenting information in a variety of formats to the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, District leadership, staff, and parents. Ability to analyze needs and prepare schedules, procedures and operational guidelines. Ability to research and recommend standards, procedures and methods. Able to certify in order to train bus drivers to meet all requirements of a CDL. Ability to adapt to change and continuously ascertain new knowledge and skills. Ability to maintain self-motivation and a positive attitude. Ability to work in a professional and friendly manner. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, in one-on-one and small group situations to staff and the general public. Ability to read and interpret documents and instructions, furnished in a variety of formats, including, but not limited to, District policies and procedures, safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all District policy and procedures, Board of Education policies, and applicable laws. Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 35% sitting, 30% walking, and 35% standing. While most duties are performed indoors, the employee may be required to perform duties outdoors in various types of weather, including inclement weather with temperatures at or below freezing for extended periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee frequently interacts with students and staff.
$32.06 - $48.08/hr DOE
