The Superintendent/Principal of Schools shall hold a valid Idaho Education Credential in Education Administration endorsed for service as a Superintendent and Principal2. Possesses such academic background and professional experience as the Board of Trustees may specify.REPORTS TO:Board of TrusteesJOB GOAL:The Superintendent/Principal of Schools serves as the leader of the School District. The Superintendent/Principal is responsible for maintaining productive interrelationships with the public, improving the quality of educational opportunities, and developing the personnel, finances, and facilities necessary for a quality educational program.The Superintendent/Principal of Schools also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Trustees. As such, the Superintendent recommends policies, and makes necessary decisions during the recess of the Board of Trustees.SUPERINTENDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Interpret and clarify the purposes and needs of the school system to the Board of Trustees, staff, students, and public.2. Coordinate the total educational program by organizing and implementing the same to improve curriculum and instruction and provides leadership in its development and improvement.3. Supervise the expenditure of all funds for the purposes set forth in the approved Budget or other special expenditures approved by the Board of Trustees. Within the limits of the approved Budget, the Superintendent shall have the power to approve and direct all purchases of current school supplies.4. Assume final responsibility for the selection, assignment, dismissal, and evaluation of all personnel.5. Coordinate the work of administrative staff members, provides counsel and motivation, and fosters spirt.6. Represent the District in its dealings with other school systems, institutions and agencies, community organizations, and the public.7. Direct studies and planning related to school organizations, attendance area boundaries, and school plant requirements.8. Oversee the processing and submission of required reports.9. Exercise leadership in the development and executive of the school-community relations program.10. Assume ultimate responsibility for the assignment of students, and the various specialized areas of administration including student services, business management, plant management, transportation, and research.11. Keep the Board of Trustees informed about the status of the school system as well as educational trends and practices.12. Initiate and guide the development of Policies for consideration by the Board of Trustees, and develop such administrative rules and procedures as may be necessary to implement Board Policies.13. Attend all meetings of the Boards of Trustees, except when matters regarding the Superintendent’s employment are being considered or when excused by the Board of Trustees.14. Develop effective programs for the operation, maintenance, and renovation of existing plant facilities, and develops long-range plans for future facilities.15. Develop administrative procedures necessary to implement the Board of Trustee’s goals, policies, and programs.16. Utilize the power to fill vacancies caused by the temporary absence of teachers and other personnel, and to make such other temporary arrangements as are necessary for the continuous operation of the schools.17. Recommend the hire, discharge and/or suspension of all employees of the Board of Trustees as provided by law and the Policies of the Board of Trustees, with such recommendations reported to the Board of Trustees for final approval and confirmation.18. Represent the District as its Chief Executive Officer in all dealings with other school systems, social institutions, business firms, agencies of government, and the general public.19. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and returning to and completing tasks in a timely manner.20. Work independently and with a team.21. Interact with students, parents, staff, faculty, and administration effectively and professionally.22. Follow oral and written instructions and observe District, State, and federal policies and procedures.23. Follow all Board-approved policies, safety rules, and regulations.24. Attend in-services and training sessions.25. Respect and practice confidentiality both in and out of school with regard to records, activities, and communications relating to all students, parents/guardians, and staff.26. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Trustees.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Establish guides for proper student conduct within the policy established by the Board of Trustees and maintain student discipline following procedural due process.2. Plan, organize, direct and supervise all school activities, including extracurricular activities.3. Keep appropriate personnel (administration, staff, and school board) informed of the school’s activities and problems.4. Orient new staff members and assist in their professional growth. Supervise and evaluate all staff members regarding individual and group performances using the Charlotte Danielson Framework.5. Delegate responsible personnel for the supervision of the school in the absence of the principal.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:The Superintendent of Schools shall serve a twelve (12) month contract each year, 220 Contract Days with 10 days of vacation annually.The Superintendent serves under a Contract which may be entered into for a period of not more than three (3) years. Such Contract may be renewed or extended at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.Salary for the Superintendent of Schools shall be set annually by the Board of Trustees.PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:The Board of Trustees shall conduct a formal annual written evaluation of the work of the Superintendent of Schools. The Evaluation shall indicate the strengths and weaknesses of the Superintendent of School’s job performance during the year immediately preceding the Evaluation, and shall indicate areas, which, in the opinion of the Board of Trustees, calls for improvement.APPROVED BY:Board of TrusteesBliss School District #234 is an equal opportunity employer. Education required

Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Superintendent in Idaho.Master’s degree required.
