SLP Instructional Aide
Position Purpose
Assists the Speech Language Pathologist in achieving the goals and objectives as stated on each child’s current Individual Education Plan by providing individual, small group, or whole group instruction in a designated therapy room,  Resource Room setting, and/or the regular classroom when appropriate.

Essential Job Functions
Become familiar with basic special education knowledge as covered in the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act 1997, with emphasis on due process procedures and confidentiality of information and records.
Bills Medicaid as outlined by guidelines and regulations.  
Displays a positive attitude toward school/special education programs and shows respect for leadership and programming decisions made by supervisors.
Understands and follows school district policy and uses the proper chain of command.
Provides individualized instructional activities using materials and sequences selected/prescribed by the Speech Language Pathologist and other related services personnel.
Creates and maintains a positive classroom environment and therapy sessions through the performance of duties such as making attractive bulletin boards, developing interesting instructional materials, using equipment and materials appropriately, keeping the room and work areas clean and orderly, etc.
Supervises and manages student behavior in a variety of school settings. Disciplines students in a manner consistent with school and teacher policies, as well as following Behavior intervention plans.
Meets the personal needs of children with disabilities including toileting, feeding, locomotion, and health needs, and is physically and emotionally able to handle the rigorous demands of working with all children who have disabilities. 
Interacts with students, parents, and staff in a positive, friendly, and encouraging manner.
Acts ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
Knows and follows school policy and chain of command.
Will, with the supervisor, develop, maintain, and document a professional growth plan by the State Department of Education Standard Based Principles.
Implements and follows specific Behavior Plans for specified students.  
Performs such duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form, and effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively through written language with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile:
BS Degree In Communication Sciences/Disorders Preferred
High School diploma or equivalent.
Strong communication skills, organization skills, experience with direct instruction, and the ability to work with elementary-age children. in the educational setting.
Educational Assistant experience preferred.

Education required

BS in Speech Communication Disorders Preferred, High School Diploma

Experience required

College Courses as part of BS in Communication Sciences and / or Educational Assistant experience preferred.

Skills required

Strong communication skills, organization skills, experience with direct instruction, and the ability to work with elementary age children. in the educational setting.
