Maintain confidentiality of staff and studentsPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TOSecondary Counselor/District Test Coordinator and Director of Special EducationJOB SUMMARYTo provide identification, intervention, and special services to students with language, speech, and hearing disorders to help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that may interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProviding Direct Services to Students1. Utilize assessment procedures, techniques, and standardized tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis of speech, language and/or hearing disorders2. Plan, prepare, and deliver treatment programs for children with speech and language deficiencies3. Plan and conduct teacher/parent conferences when needed4. Inform parents and teachers of results of language, speech, and hearing diagnostic evaluation5. Assist parents in improving their skills in working with their child's speech and language delays6. Provide direct therapy based on individual needs7. Conduct ongoing evaluation of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their program8. Assist in the referral of individuals to agencies and specialists in the communityChild Study Team and IEP Responsibilities1. Provide diagnostic evaluations of pupils referred to the child study team for communication disorders, and participate in team conferences related to those pupils2. Develop and implement an individualized educational program (IEP) in conjunction with parents and teachers of pupils who are eligible for speech correction, andidentify pupils in need of related services3. Formulate long-term goals and short-term instructional objectives to be included in a student's IEP, Total Service Plan, and Instructional Implementation Plan4. Maintain a close relationship with the child study team and serve as a case manager as assigned5. May participate in the child study team6. Provide individual and small group intervention sessions with students who have been classifiedOther1. Conduct classes in language stimulation2. Keep records necessary for each child and complete all required local, state, and federal reports3. Participate in the development and improvement of opportunities for students with disabilities by providing individual or group in-service experiences for staffand parents4. Familiarize principals, teachers, and other school personnel with language, speech and hearing services5. Submit reports to the Director of Special Services upon request6. Assist teachers in developing language and speech programs to be carried out in the classroom7. Address community groups concerning communication disorders upon request8. Acts as an educational consultant to classroom teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators as required9. Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies10. Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership inprofessional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications11. Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education12. Seek assistance should emergencies arise13. Represent the school district in a positive manner14. Know and follow school district policy and chain of command15. Perform other duties as assignedEVALUATIONPerformance of this position will be evaluated annually by the secondary counselor/district test coordinator and/or the director of special education in conformance with district policy and IDAPA 08.02.02.120.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTBy contract as determined by the Board of Trustees in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.
