PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TOSecondary Counselor/District Test Coordinator and Director of Special EducationJOB SUMMARYTo provide identification, intervention, and special services to students with language, speech, and hearing disorders to help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that may interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProviding Direct Services to StudentsUtilize assessment procedures, techniques, and standardized tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis of speech, language and/or hearing disordersPlan, prepare, and deliver treatment programs for children with speech and language deficienciesPlan and conduct teacher/parent conferences when neededInform parents and teachers of results of language, speech, and hearing diagnostic evaluationAssist parents in improving their skills in working with their child's speech and language delaysProvide direct therapy based on individual needsConduct ongoing evaluation of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their programAssist in the referral of individuals to agencies and specialists in the communityChild Study Team and IEP ResponsibilitiesProvide diagnostic evaluations of pupils referred to the child study team for communication disorders, and participate in team conferences related to those pupilsDevelop and implement an individualized educational program (IEP) in conjunction with parents and teachers of pupils who are eligible for speech correction, and identify pupils in need of related servicesFormulate long-term goals and short-term instructional objectives to be included in a student's IEP, Total Service Plan, and Instructional Implementation PlanMaintain a close relationship with the child study team and serve as a case manager as assignedMay participate in the child study teamProvide individual and small group intervention sessions with students who have been classifiedOtherConduct classes in language stimulationKeep records necessary for each child and complete all required local, state, and federal reportsParticipate in the development and improvement of opportunities for students with disabilities by providing individual or group in-service experiences for staff and parentsFamiliarize principals, teachers, and other school personnel with language, speech and hearing servicesSubmit reports to the Director of Special Services upon requestAssist teachers in developing language and speech programs to be carried out in the classroomAddress community groups concerning communication disorders upon requestActs as an educational consultant to classroom teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators as requiredAssume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and suppliesAssume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publicationsAdhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of EducationSeek assistance should emergencies ariseRepresent the school district in a positive mannerKnow and follow school district policy and chain of commandPerform other duties as assigned
Education required
QUALIFICATIONSPupil Personnel Services Certificate with appropriate endorsements, such as Speech-Language PathologistAbility to effectively apply the principles of assessment, treatment, and prevention of speech, language, and hearing disordersDemonstrated knowledge in the field of speech-language pathology
Skills required
Works well with students, staff, and the publicExcellent organizational skills, interpersonal, and communication skillsMaintain confidentiality of staff and students
Benefits
Range $40K to $66K with additional days and stipends
