About this job

1. The Director will support the primary special education teacher on all meetings involving eligibility determination at Shoshone-Bannock Jr./Sr. High School.
2. The Director will review and sign all IEPs and 504s developed at Shoshone-Bannock Jr./Sr. High School to ensure that the services proposed will be provided.
3. The Director oversees, in collaboration with the lead special education teacher, compliance with re-evaluation and initial evaluation process.
4. The Director will attend other regularly scheduled school and leadership team meetings to work collaboratively with other staff members.
5. The Director will plan, develop, and conduct regular special education department meetings.
6. The Director will develop and monitor schedules of all special education and related service professional and paraprofessional staff.
7. The Director will help to identify needs, prepare, and/or provide professional development to Shoshone-Bannock Jr./Sr. High School staff – both general and special education staff as needed.
8. The Director will supervise and evaluate special education staff at Shoshone-Bannock Jr./Sr. High School as required.
9. The Director will provide thorough and timely data, reports, and student information as requested.
10. The Director will project and identify special educational needs and develop programs to meet those needs. OR consider: Develops system procedures for identification, evaluation and placement of students with special education needs; Represent the school system in dealing with outside agencies and organizations concerned with special education; Assists others in the preparation and review of reports generated for State funding of Special Education programs Coordinates staff development sessions for general and special education personnel; Coordinates the development of information required by the transportation department in arranging specialized transportation Approves special education requests for supplies, materials, and equipment; and Coordinates instructional program for special education services
11. Ensure that schools and district follow all state and federal regulations relative to the identification, placement, and program development for special education students;
12. The Director will develop a transition plan for Sophomore Special Education students so that they are college or career ready when they graduate. The transition plan will be reviewed yearly during the IEP or 504 review process.
13. The Director will develop and revise Behavior Intervention Plans, as necessary for our Special Education population.
14. The Director identifies and requests materials, supplies, and equipment to enable implementation of IEP and 504 goals and objectives, within specified timelines.
15. The Director will select appropriate instructional goals based on specific student needs.
16. The Director will work with the Home-School Coordinator to provided necessary services for Special Education students and as need participate in home visits.
17. The Director’s duties and responsibilities will include other activities directed by the Administrator to carry out position functions.

Education required

QUALIFICATIONS1. A Master’s Degree or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education and/or Administration.2. Must possess an active Special Education Credential with endorsement to Teach3. Possession of an active endorsement for Special Education Director highly preferred; if this credential is not in possession, the chosen candidate will be required to earn this credential within 2 years of hire4. Knowledge of the Fort Hall area, community, and the customs of its residents.5. Must work well with school faculty and other personnel.6. Must have the ability to work with and around 6th-12th grade students.7. Must have proof of a valid Idaho driver’s license and be insurable through the Tribes insurance carrier.8. A background investigation must be completed and acceptable under the provisions of the policies of the Shoshone-Bannock District #537, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act.9. Must participate in and pass the alcohol/drug screen.10. Must demonstrate the ability to understand and follow laws, rules and regulations, resolutions, and policies.11. Employment history must demonstrate dependability, and the Director must demonstrate exceptional organizational capabilities.12. Self-starter; complete tasks in a timely manner with the ability to work independently with little or no supervision.13. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
