Emmett School District has Openings for Special Education Teachers experienced in both Resource Room and Extended Resource room programming and support.  Idaho Certification in Special Education K-12 required.  Skills in Specialized Instruction generally K-12 to offer students Resource Room Supports and/or specialized programming for Life Skills focus.  Knowledge and experience in modifying general education curriculum and supplementing with replacement curriculum to meet individual student needs as outlined on specific IEP. Teachers with experience providing Resource room support, collaborating with General Education Teachers, and offering push-in support,  and those having strong knowledge and experience in Behavior Intervention and Extended Resources are strongly recommended to apply. 

Position Purpose
Assess student needs, lead the IEP Team to develop IEP,  and provide specially designed instruction to students identified as eligible for special education instructional services to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their social, emotional, and academic development. Ability to establish and maintain a favorable working and learning atmosphere. Knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies, procedures, and state and federal statutes. Knowledge of technology as it relates to education. Maintain confidentiality related to agency, district, students, and family information. Demonstrated sensitivity and respect for diversity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Special Education Teacher experienced in both Resource Room and Extended Resource Room across grade levels.   Certification requires a Special Education K-12 Specialist (Idaho). Responsible for providing resource rooms support for students in all subject areas as well as support participation in general education classes through modifying curriculum and teaming with teachers for class participation.
Modification of General Education curriculum and use of curriculum for supplementation.  
Work with teams to Identify students who qualify for Special Education.
Provide special education services to eligible students.
Develop and implement on an ongoing basis the Individual Education Plan for each student assigned to the special education programs.
Develop appropriate, measurable learning goals and objectives for students to progress in the general education curriculum that is compliant with the Idaho State Department of Education requirements.
Coordinate with General Education Teachers to ensure accommodations are being implemented in General Education Classes, Assist General Education Teachers in providing modification to general education curriculum as outlined in IEPS, and collaborate and assist with interventions across settings.  
Meet all IEP and eligibility timelines.
Provide direct instruction to students to meet the specified IEP annual goals and short-term objectives that have been aligned to the general education standards or alternate standards.
Actively seek out services and support staff necessary to assist in meeting the IEP goals and objectives for individual students.
Monitor student progress at least weekly.
Document and communicate pupil progress to parents, regular classroom teachers, and other appropriate personnel at least as often as progress is reported for general education students.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences.
Plan and participate in each student’s annual review.
Participate in multidisciplinary teams with the school, appropriate community personnel, parents, and students when appropriate.
Provide the necessary record-keeping documents as required by the Federal, State, and Emmett School District rules and regulations.
Ensure an orderly learning environment through effective teaching and management practices.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques to address the needs and capabilities of the individual or students involved.
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with building administrators, other building teachers, and support personnel.
Participate in in-service activities and other staff development activities to enhance professional growth.
Plan and supervise the purposeful assignment for the paraeducator(s) and volunteers and provide evaluative data regarding their job performance.
Know and follow school policy and the chain of command
Understand and implement the Idaho Special Education Manual
Acts ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
Performs such school-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs. 
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles. 
Knowledgeable about Functional Behavior Analysis, Developing, and Implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. 
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. 
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. 
Qualifications Profile
   Certification/License: 

Idaho State Certification as a Special Education Teacher. 
   Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments. 
   Experience: 

Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
