To help pupils to develop skills, attitudes, andknowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education according to theguidelines outlined in each student’s Individual Education Plan.MAJOR DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIESInstruction1.Preparefor assigned classes2.Designlessons with an appropriate level of difficulty which provide content in a logicaland sequential manner3.Employ a variety of instructional techniques and mediaconsistent with the physicallimitations of the classroom and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or studentgroups involved4.Meetand instructassigned classes in the locations and at the times designatedSPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER25.Identifypupil needs and provideinstruction appropriate to those needs6.Analyze and interpret student data to develop and modify instructional activities7.Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans(IEPs)8.Devise written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinkingas well as the reproduction of facts, and use them to evaluate student progress on aregular basis9.Prepare students academically for all district, state, and federal testing10.Displaycommand of the subject matter11.Budgetclass time effectivelyOther Duties to Students1.Encouragestudents to strive to meet their highest potential2.Establish and communicate classroom rules, and encourage students to set and maintainstandards of classroom behavior3.Engagechildren in conversation to encourage language development4.Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-relatedpurposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so underreasonable terms5.Workto establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and theirparents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students6.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials,and facilities7.Assist, where appropriate, in loading and unloading the special education pupil fromtransportation buses or vansProfessional Contacts and Activities1.Attend and participatein faculty meetings2.Organize a meetingat least once annually with the case manager, parents, and otherprofessional staff to review and revise theIEPand placement of each assigned pupil3.Keepimmediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise4.Cooperatewith other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, curriculum,objectives, and methods5.Provideneeded and requested information on a timely and effective basisSpecial Education-Specific Duties1.Provideinstruction to classified pupils in accordance with each pupil's IndividualizedEducation Program(IEP)2.Workcooperatively with regular education teaching staff to coordinate instructionalactivities and to monitor the progress of each pupil3.Providesupport instruction in the regular classroom or the resource center as assigned4.Coordinateand cooperate with other members of the staff in the development ofadaptations, modifications, accommodations, and instructional methods5.Providehome instruction to confined special education pupils as assigned6.Consultwith members of the child study team regarding each pupil's educationalprogram, academic program and personal growthSPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER37.Plan, coordinate, and lead the implementation of IEPs including modifications andaccommodations8.Participate in the development of the District's plan for special education9.Evaluate student progress on a regular basis, as indicated on IEP’s, and as often asgeneral education students are evaluated and informed of their progress10.Assistin the evaluation of students referred for special education services11.Maintainaccurate, complete, and correct records in accordance with applicable federaland state law, (including IDEA, ADA,and504), administrative rules, andBoardpolicy12.Input data in a timely fashionOther1.Assistin upholding and enforcing school rules2.Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development
