PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
Superintendent, Building Principals and Director of Special Services
To promote health and safety in the school environment and provide health services to students, faculty, and staff. To assist with the teaching of sound health practices.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Health Services and Education
1. Work in cooperation with the school health professionals, members of the staff, parents, and community health professionals to ensure a healthy school climate and to minimize absence due to illness
2. Promote a healthy/safe school environment by assisting the administration and staff to maintain safe and sanitary conditions throughout the school
3. Promptly report issues that may arise to the building principals
4. Provide emergency care in case of sudden illness and administer first aid in case of injury to students or staff according to established policies and procedures
5. Be responsible for the availability and maintenance of required medical supplies and equipment
6. Administer prescribed medication to students in accordance with law and Board policy Provide training and supervision for the administration of emergency medication, help prevent and control communicable disease through inspections, lectures, exclusion, and readmission of students and staff in keeping with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
7. Notify the building principal or his or her designee to arrange for immediate examination of any pupil who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
8. Assist the building principal and the child study team in the identification and placement of students with disabilities who need special education services
9. Provide special health care and related services to meet the needs of students with disabilities
10. Conduct health services and screening programs as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
11. Make referrals and conduct follow up activities as necessary
12. Collaborate with community and other non-school health agencies to meet the health needs of children and families
13. Participate in the development of a comprehensive health education curriculum
14. Upon request, assist teachers with instruction of certain health units
15. Provide information and training on health matters at staff meetings and in-service trainings
16. Provide information to parents and children in a format that allows them to make better choices that improve their health
17. Confer with and advise students, parents, and staff members on matters pertaining to the health and safety of students
1. Assist in the development of policies and procedures for comprehensive health education and services
2. Develop and maintain the annual School Nursing Plan in conjunction with the superintendent and building principals, including determining how basic nursing services will be provided, providing a summary of specific medical needs of individual students and how they will be addressed, determining what emergency nursing services will be available, and providing detailed nursing assignments for all school buildings
3. Prepare health and safety reports as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy and as requested by the Building Principal
4. Report any suspicion of child abuse to local law enforcement or the Department of Health and Welfare, as well as the director of special services and the building principal
5. Maintain up to date health records on all students including separate records of immunizations and ensure their confidentiality
1. Participate in the development and implementation of the district’s emergency and crisis management plan
2. Schedule and supervise health surveys of students and staff
3. Receive training in the treatment of asthma and maintain a valid current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate
4. Receive training and certification in the use of AEDs as required by the director of special services and/or the building principal
5. Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications
6. Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education
7. Seek assistance should emergencies arise
8. Represent the school district in a positive manner
9. Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
10. Compile health histories for students and write care plans as needed
11. Health screenings include vision, hearing, scoliosis, dental
12. First aid as needed
13. Perform other duties as assigned
INSTRUCTOR FOR INTRO TO CNA DUTIES
Applicants must be highly qualified and have Idaho Standards Certification with appropriate CNA certification. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Develop instructions and community-based Career and Technical Education (CTE) training experiences. Help students learn specific job requirements through a competency-based training curriculum. Teach entry levels skills that facilitate employment in the Health and Allied Health Occupations
1. Willingness to work towards and complete minimum requirements for CTE occupational specialist certificate in Idaho.
2. Must be a Bachelors prepared Registered Nurse (RN) with an unencumbered, current Idaho license. Must have evidence of three years of experience working as an RN with at least two years of experience caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age.
3. Willingness to work towards and complete documentation of an instructor development course; train-the-trainer course; or equivalent [Idaho Board of Nursing requirement].
4. The successful candidate must also be approved by the Idaho Board of Nursing. Role Competencies Exemplifying Integrity: Acts in a fair and ethical manner towards others. 1. Must use the curriculum scope and sequence in accordance with Idaho State Board of Nursing guidelines for nursing assistants with a minimum of 120 hours completion time. (80 hours of classroom and 32 hours of clinical and 8 laboratory/clinical).
2. Coordinate with high school counselors in screening prospective students for the programs.
3. Cultivate and maintain community-based training and clinical sites while matching the experience to course objectives.
4. Establish follow-up and monitoring procedures for the clinical sites and students who are training in them.
5. Establish 16 hours of learning prior to direct care. Concepts that must be covered include communication, interpersonal skills, infection control, safety-emergency procedures, promoting residents’ independence and respecting resident’s rights.
6. Develop and maintain an industry-based Technical Advisory Committee.
7. Offer students opportunities for leadership and growth with the Health Occupations Students of America and National Technical Honor Society.
8. Enter daily attendance and update grades on a regular basis.
9. Submit all reports required by the Idaho Division of Career and Technical Education to the program coordinator prior to deadline.
10. Serve as a liaison between TVT and the participating consortium schools.
11. Maintain appropriate student records.
12. Maintain an inventory of all program equipment and materials.
13. Participate with the development of individualized training programs for students in Special Education programs.
14. Coordinate with the PHS administration in evaluating and modifying teaching strategies, curriculum delivery and classroom management for effectiveness and insurance of quality teaching.
15. Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
