The role of the Reading Specialist is to provide focused instruction, support, and leadership that results in high quality outcomes in the area of Reading and Literacy for the students at MOSAICS Public Schools. The Reading Specialist will establish best practices for literary instruction while directing school wide and individual reading goals. Our Reading Specialist shares responsibility with teachers for assessing students' reading abilities, identifying deficiencies, and creating reading plans and strategies for students selected for additional reading instruction. Additionally, the Reading Specialist may provide interventions with teachers to implement supports in the classroom.
The Reading Specialist will lead the charge at MOSAICS Public School in creating a culture that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about books, and a genuine love for reading.

• Assess children throughout the school and identify children at risk.
• Design and implement reading academic interventions using research-based methodology.
• Communicate with school personnel and parents of children regarding reading levels and rate of progress.
• Gather, compile, and disaggregate data; and link that data to student learning and instruction.
• Differentiate instruction based on assessment data.
• Document interventions and progress on each child.
• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
• Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
• Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
• Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
• Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
• Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of school district.
• Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
• Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Mental/Physical Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Must be able to position and move about within the work area. Ability to retrieve, transport, position/reposition items, supplies and equipment; typically frequent reaching, hand/arm motions, bending, stooping and kneeling are necessary.

SALARY: According to Certified Teacher Salary Schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 day calendar assignment

Education required

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Valid Idaho teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/grade level assigned

Experience required

• At least five years of classroom teaching

Skills required

• Knowledge of subjects (reading) assigned
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


• Educator will earn a salary based on $41,000 and $60,000 depending on experience, education, and certification.
