About this job
Salmon River JSD 243 (Riggins, Idaho) is looking for individuals who are interested in working in a close-knit community that supports education working with our students as a paraprofessional. Candidates needs to have or be able to pass the appropriate Praxis tests. Please submit an application, resume, two to four letters of recommendations, a letter of interest.
The Salmon River JSD 243 (Riggins, Idaho) is located in the Salmon River Canyon at the confluence of the Little Salmon River and the Big Salmon River roughly halfway between Boise and Lewiston. We are a small, rural district comprised of 130 students PreK-12. The district stretches some 40 miles, 15 miles North of Riggins to 26 miles South of Riggins. The economy of the area has shifted from a natural resources’ economy to one centered on recreational tourism.
The Riggins area has a lower median income ($36,500) when compared to the rest of the state ($55,785). However, the number of students receiving free or reduced lunches has declined from 72% in 2012 to 43% in 2021. Our overall student enrollment has remained steady over the past few years with an increase in the elementary grades. We have several alumni that are returning to the community to raise their families.
The district was formed in 2007 after deconsolidation from the Grangeville School District. Riggins and the surrounding communities that comprise JSD 243 provide tremendous support for our schools. We run a levy annually that is passed with over 75% voter approval.
The district also receives strong support from our booster club and PTO. Both organizations provide financial support for student recognition and incentives, scholarship opportunities, teacher recognition, and a variety of student clubs and activities.
Our schools are on a four-day school week. Our certified teacher salary compensation is higher than the state career ladder. The district pays all of the employees’ insurance and 80% of their family’s insurance.
