Idaho Virtual Academy: K5 Full-Time Teacher Expectations

Every full-time teacher is expected to motivate students, inspire students, and believe in their students. Teachers will focus on a growth mindset and encourage students to commit to their education and work to their potential for educational and personal success. Support the school vision and goal of increasing student achievement as measured by state assessments.

IDVA Standards:
• Instruction: Plan and teach engaging lessons that are aligned to the K12 curriculum and state standards.
• School Culture: Support and contribute to maintaining and fostering a positive school culture.
• Data Driven Instruction: Utilize data to drive instruction and provide intervention and/or enrichment.
• Assessment: Supporting students in the completion of diagnostic, interim, benchmark, and state assessments.
• Professional Development: Actively participate in and seek out professional development opportunities.
• Professional Learning Communities: Meet regularly with a team of educators to share expertise and to work collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.

Professional Responsibilities:
• Follow guidelines outlined in IDVA certificated employee handbook
• Maintain a home office in which interruptions are kept to a minimum in order to maintain professionalism in terms of job responsibilities
• Maintain organization in home office and daily tasks
• Adhere to assigned deadlines
• Positive, consistent, and effective communication with administration, colleagues, parents and students

K5 Job Expectations:
 Academics
o Assist in the monitoring and placement of courses, including compacting for late enrolling students, promotions, etc.
o Consistent progress monitoring (communicate with families & document)
o FAST Referrals
o Monitor RTI Process
o Participate and attend IEP/CARE Team/LEP/504 meetings
o Support new families/orientation
o Complete progress reports
o Complete beginning and end of year checklists
o Grading and Monitoring work samples or assignment submissions
 Instruction
o Set up all courses
o Complete and implement curriculum map based on data
o Provide a minimum of 15 hours of instruction per week (large group, small group, and one on one)
o Track attendance/class data/set recordings/send live class messaging
o Provide general education, intervention, and enrichment classes
 Data Driven Instruction
o Participate in bi-weekly data conferences
o Participate in monthly team data meetings
 School Culture
o Complete and document welcome calls
o Call & communicate with families to offer support (document conversations)
o Promote positive, consistent and effective communication by responding to phone calls and emails from colleagues and families/students within 24 hours.
o Attend all school assemblies
o Attend and assist with local school outings
 Assessment
o Utilize diagnostic, interim, quizzes/unit assessments, benchmark, and state testing data to drive instruction
o Proctor HS finals, IRI’s, and state assessments
o Participate in messaging student testing schedules and reschedule students as needed
 Professional Development
o Attend and participate in all coaching meetings
o Attend and participate in all back to school and departmental professional development
o Complete all required K12 trainings
 PLC
o Adhere to PLC norms (Equity of Voice, Active Listening, Safety to Share Different Perspectives, and Commitment to the Work)
o Utilize the following questions to drive discussions:
 What is it we expect students to learn?
 How will we know if our students are learning?
 How will we respond when students don’t learn?
 How will we respond when students have learned?
 Clerical Duties
o Calendaring
o Processing Change of Information or Withdrawals
o Add data to SharePoint
o Mailings to students
o Computer Maintenance/Backup
o Presidential Awards/SOM & TOM Nominations
 Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Ability to pass required background check

Certificates and Licenses: Teaching License
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICIATIONS:
• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong interpersonal skills for communicating effectively with parents/guardians, students, and school staff.
• Great organizational and time management skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel; general computer/web proficiency; familiarity entering/retrieving information in a database
• Committed to increasing customer satisfaction, assumes responsibility for solving customer problems when appropriate, handles customer questions and complaints, communicates with customers, handles service problems politely and efficiently, always available for customers, follows procedure to solve customer problems, understands company products and services, maintains pleasant and professional image

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Five (5) years relevant professional experience
• Familiarity with local/state/federal laws and reporting pertaining to Idaho
• Experience with distance learning
• Customer service experience
• Experience in a charter school environment
• Previous experience in a school setting
