SUMMARY:
Instructs music students. Schedules classes in each building, according to building and teacher schedule. Arranges and moves instruments, music stands, chairs and other equipment as needed. Assumes responsibility for recruiting students and developing a quality program.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises classroom, students, teaching assistants, and volunteers.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate endorsed in Music K-12 or willingness to obtain one through alternate route to certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
• Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and creativity.
• Develop and implement music curriculum for students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.
• Teach students about music theory, history, appreciation, and performance techniques.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes at the times designated.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Collaborate with other teachers and school staff to integrate music into the overall music experience.
• Instructs Chorus and Specialty Groups (i.e. Bell Choir, band, or other student driven interest music groups).
• Assist students in developing their music abilities and talents.
• Provide individualized instruction and support to students with varying levels of music ability.
• Maintains inventory of instruments and equipment.
• Plans and facilitates material orders, instrument and equipment repair.
• Possesses ability to sing and play instruments, as needed. (such as piano and guitar)
• Organize and oversee music performances, concerts, and/or recitals.
• Schedules necessary music transportation.
• Communicates regularly with parents and caregivers about students’ progress and achievement in music.
• Possesses computer skills necessary for this position.

• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
• Ability to work in a friendly manner and to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• Ability to perform duties in accordance with Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continuously stand, and occasionally walk and sit and talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to push or lift up to 25lbs such as a musical instrument. The employee frequently will use manual dexterity and or finger dexterity while performing the duties of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read music or handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will frequently drive while performing the duties of this job. The employee will hear conversations in a quiet and noisy environment and have the ability to tell where a sound is coming from.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
