Varsity Coach


QUALIFICATIONS:

As established by state certification requirements and the Idaho High
School Athletic Association; ability to accomplish the performance tasks listed below; such other
qualifications of academic, professional, and
personal excellence as the Board of Directors may
specify.

JOB GOAL:

To encourage maximum participation, to assist each participating student in acquiring a high degree of skill, to instill knowledge of the values of self-discipline and sportsmanship, and to increase the level of student self-esteem, the Varsity Coach shall carry out the following performance tasks:




A. Formulate the objectives for the sport season.


B. Keep abreast of new ideas and techniques by attending clinics and workshops, reading in his or her field, and encouraging the assistant coaches to do the same.


C. Be knowledgeable of and abide by rules and regulations concerning his or her sport, Idaho High School Activities Association, and the District and the athletic program therein including concussion management, policy and state law.




D. Keep abreast of rule changes in his or her sport.


E. Implement proper procedures for out of season practices according to Idaho High School Activities Association guidelines.




F. Inventory, select, care for, and maintain equipment.


G. Assume responsibility for the development of a total program ~out the District, junior high through senior high, in order to in
sure the quality of the particular sport.




H. Establish performance criteria for student participants.




I. Review the District policy on accident reporting and insurance procedures.

J. Issue and collect forms necessary for athletic participation for athletes in his or her sport. Present forms to the Athletic Director for his approval before issuing equipment to the student athlete.

K. Secure the necessary student support staff for his or her program (managers, statisticians, etc.).

L. Post emergency numbers in the training room.

M. Arrange for a systematic issuance of school equipment.

N. Explain all regulations of the District as presented in the Handbook for Student Athletes.

O. Clarify to athletes the letter award policy for his or her sport.


P. Instruct managers on proper care of equipment, facilities and other duties as assigned.

Q. Plan with and orient all coaches, junior and senior high, regarding goals, philosophies, and techniques for his or her program. In
-house clinics, seminars, and practice sessions must be utilized.

R. Attend the rules interpretation meeting in this area arranged by the IHSAA.

S. Arrange to meet with the Athletic Director to discuss needs for the upcoming season.

T. Oversee safety conditions of the facility or areas in which the sport activity, is conducted.

U. Coach individual participants in the skills required in the particular sport.

V. Enforce discipline and sportsmanship-like behavior at all times and apply appropriate measures when established standards are breached.

W. Implement the interscholastic schedule as developed by the Athletic Director

X. Organize, schedule, and supervise practice sessions.

Y. Properly secure playing facilities and locker and shower areas following completion of practices and games (shall be the last person to leave facility ).

Z. Assist the Athletic Director with host school responsibilities to effectively accommodate visiting teams.

AA. Be responsible for the conduct of the athletes under his or her direction during practices and games.

BB. Inform the Athletic Director of all athletic injuries.

CC. Be responsible for accurately reporting game results to the appropriate sports media

DD. Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used.

EE. Emphasize safety precautions and use accepted training and injury procedures.

FF. Provide the Athletic Director a copy of all general correspondence and bulletins to student athletes and parents for filing procedures.

GG. File a discipline report with the Athletic Director when applicable.

HH. Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and hold the student athlete responsible for all equipment not returned.

II. Arrange for cleaning, storing and conducting an inventory of all the athletic equipment.

JJ. Provide the Athletic Director with an inventory and an equipment request for the following year. This should be done within forty-five (45) days of the close of the season.

KK. Be responsible for submitting a list of award winners and organizing any award banquets, with the approval of the Athletic Director.

LL. Recommend in writing additions and/or improvements for care and maintenance of facilities.

MM. Using an accepted written evaluation instrument, evaluate all assistant coaches within the senior high school program.

NN. Submit written recommendations for next year's scheduling to the Athletic Director.

00. Select equipment and make recommendations for purchases of such equipment.

PP. Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments. Submit a copy of these records to the Athletic Director for permanent filing

QQ. Evaluate the past season.

RR. Make recommendations to the Athletic Director regarding next year’s coaching staff.

SS. Work closely with the Athletic Director scheduling interscholastic contests as appropriate.

TT. Be responsible for acquiring and keeping a current First Aid Certification - offered through the district.

UU. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
