School Mission
The Idaho Technical Career Academy which opened its virtual doors for the first time in the fall of 2014, is a virtual career technical education charter school. It is designed to provide an occupational sequence of instruction that will prepare Idaho students to obtain the necessary technical skills needed to succeed. The essential design elements of the school are as follows:

• Provide academic core curriculum aligned to state standards
• Provide a sequence of instruction in career-technical pathways
• A pathway is defined as a three-year sequence of focused coursework in a particular career cluster
• All students will be continually enrolled in career technical coursework
• Each student will be placed with an advisory teacher
• The School will attempt to foster industry involvement

JOB DESCRIPTION
• Directing the academic opportunities of every student in your class
• Managing and pacing multiple courses
• Engaging students in online coursework
• Traveling throughout the state to proctor testing and to attend professional development
• Monitoring and analyzing students’ efforts
• Responding to student emails and phone messages within 24 hours (1 school day)
• Grading assignments, exams, and projects within 3 school days from the time that they are submitted
• Preparing for and hosting weekly Blackboard Collaborate (web-conferencing) presentations for students in each class
• Evaluating student performance on assignments and providing instructional feedback regarding student performance
• Supplementing, enriching, and remediating where necessary
• Participating in staff meetings, IEP/504 meetings, and parent-teacher conferences via conference call
• Communicating clearly and frequently with students and parents (via email, phone, course announcements, and Blackboard sessions)
• Working as a team with the rest of the high school staff

Additional requirements for business technology teachers:

• Business teachers will co-advise Business Professionals of America, prepare students for competitions, and attend regional, state, and national events.
• Business teachers will prepare students for MOS certifications and/or Adobe certifications and assist in keeping Console 8 updated on dedicated laptops.
• Business teachers will assist in planning and recruiting business and industry individuals for the Technical Advisory Committee.
• Business teachers will assist in finding internships, job shadows, or volunteer hours for students to gain experience from working in business and industry.

REQUIRED CHARACTERISTICS
• Have at least three years of high school classroom teaching experience and high school certification (Preference will be given to candidates that are qualified to teach multiple subjects and AP and Concurrent credit classes)
• Must be a resident of the State of Idaho and live within its borders.
• Possess a valid & current Idaho Education Credential with the correct endorsements.
• Possess excellent written communication skills
• Maintain command of theoretical knowledge of human behavior and learning including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques
• Proficient in using email, managing files, recording and reporting grades electronically, and using computer applications including word processors and spreadsheets
• Highly organized, yet willing to be flexible as the ITCA high school program changes as it grows
• Willing to work with students and parents from a variety of socioeconomic and educational backgrounds

OUT OF OFFICE REQUIREMENTS
While ITCA high school teachers maintain home offices, there are numerous times throughout the school year where the teacher is required to travel. Some examples are the following:

• Discovery Days Orientations (held regionally in August)
• ISAT/SBAC Proctoring (regional several times a year)
• Final exam proctoring (at the end of each semester)
• Professional Development (held statewide and regionally several times a year)
• High School graduation (regional and statewide in May)
• Attendance with students to Business Professionals of America events

WHAT TO EXPECT
• Work a minimum of 40 hours a week
• 100+ students per semester
• Multiple emails a day and 8+ phone calls a day from staff, students, and parents
• Grade between multiple assignments per week
• Attend an average of 3 meetings a week via conference call

Education required

Bachelors degree minimum. Start date is 8/16/2021.

Experience required

Prefer 3-5 years of teaching experience. Online teaching experience a bonus.

Skills required

Must be fully versed in Microsoft Office products; highly organized; great time management skills; ability to communicate effectively through telephone, email and via online school system
