Reports To: Lead or Assistant Building Administrator
SUMMARY: The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritionally balanced meals for Elevate Academy. This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of quality food production and portion control using standard recipes and also for appropriate quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements. The Cook is also responsible for assisting with supervision of the students while they learn kitchen skills; including but not limited to cleaning, sanitizing, and preparing meals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate specialized foodservice equipment.
• Assist in food production, service, and/or cleanup tasks as assigned.
• Receive and unpack food and supplies.
• Clean and maintain food service equipment and facilities.
• Participate in ongoing professional training.
• Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions.
• Understand and comply with all USDA child nutrition programs and the State of Idaho
• Department of Education Requirements for child nutrition.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following:
• Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, following directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing, and innovation.
• Attend to emergencies when necessary.
• Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
• Take classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, CPR, and working relationships.
• Understand and comply with all USDA child nutrition programs and the State of Idaho
• Department of Education Requirements for child nutrition.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to adapt to changes (i.e. food substitutions and numbers served).
• Good written and oral communications skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to make independent decisions in a logical, responsible, and compassionate manner.
• Ability to provide clear and timely work direction to cottage staff.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of staff and clients with emotional disorders and behaviors.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
• He/she is constantly working to meet deadlines with severe time restraints.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
