About this job

Assists the Child Nutrition Program Director in food preparation, serving, and cleanup while maintaining the standards set by the Child Nutrition Lunch Program and other regulatory agencies.

Attends scheduled meetings, in-service training, approved courses and conferences.
Prepares, serves, and stores all food products in compliance with the Rules and Regulations Governing Food Sanitation Standards for Food Service Establishments (UNICODE).
Plans, prepares, and serves all cooked food products (entrees and vegetables) according to approved standardized recipes, at the correct temperature, and attractively to be finished as near to serving time to provide the highest quality of product to the customer.
Portions and/or serves all food items according to school lunch portion sizes.
Safely operates and cleans all equipment in the work area.. Reports any safety concerns.
Operates dishwasher correctly to assure high standards of sanitation.
Assists in the proper cleaning/sanitizing of lunch room tables, serving areas, portable bars, and food preparation areas.
Maintains required forms and records as assigned by the Child Nutrition Program Director.
Possesses ability to cross train for all school lunch tasks to assure efficient operation in the absence of any personnel.
Assists in the implementation of marketing school lunch (i.e. counts receipts, makes change, balances till).
Grasps and adjusts to new and changing situations.
Other duties may be assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently walks and continuously stands. The employee frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee occasionally reaches with hands and arms and repeats the same hand/arm/finger motion many times as in portioning and serving food. The employee occasionally climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.

The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds such as food staples. The employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and occasionally walks on slippery surfaces.

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud and at times the employee may have to raise their voice to be heard. The employee has a greater than average risk of getting a minor injury such as cut or burns while performing the duties of this job. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the students, public and other staff.

Education required

High School Graduate.

Experience required

Experience with food preparation and computers are preferred.

Skills required

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, students, and other employees of the district.
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to work in a friendly manner and to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education policies, and applicable laws.
