JOB GOAL
The major goal of this position is to increase school success by alleviating the social and emotional stressors present in a
student’s life. The elementary counselor will provide services to students, parents, teacher and administrators in order to help
each child reach his/her academic, social, emotional and civic potentials. This goal will be reached by counselor activities in
the following areas: classroom instruction for students, individual and group counseling, consultation with significant adults
in the child’s life, participation in building child study teams, coordination with school resources and non-school agencies.
Each counselor will keep his/her skills and knowledge current through on-going professional development activities.
Education required
Minimum:
Master’s degree in guidance and counseling
Pupil Personnel Service certificate endorsement through the State Department of Education
At least two years teaching experience in grades K-12
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
Desired:
Three years of teaching experience
Two years experience as a counselor
