4. Experience working in Media Center with students preferred.

Job Goals:
To support/implement the smooth operation of the Media Center, providing books, periodicals,
and other media services to students for reading, study, and recreation, and assisting students
to acquire the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources. Provide the audiovisual services needed by teachers to enhance and expand teaching capabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists in operating and supervising the media center.
2. Evaluates, selects, reviews, and requisitions new media center materials.
3. Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and makes
media center materials available to supplement the instructional program.
4. Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials
and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
5. Promotes appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities.
6. Instructs and/or assists students in developing habits of independent research work and
skills in the use of reference materials and computer resources in relation to planned
7. Bar codes, catalogs, and maintains inventory on textbooks in library circulation system.
8. Assists in preparing and administering the media center budget.
9. Removes obsolete and worn materials from the collections.
10. Assists in supervising the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the
media center.
11. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
12. Has regular and predictable attendance.
13. Evaluates, selects, and recommends appropriate technology as it relates to the media

14. Maintains records and inventory of technology equipment and accessories.
15. Assists students to understand what plagiarism is and to avoid plagiarizing materials in
their research.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Terms of Employment:
This position shall be considered in all respects “employment at will” and the employee
is subject to discharge by the District at any time without cause. The “employment
period” and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create

This position will be up to 8 hours per day and up to one hundred eighty-two (182) days per
year. Work hours to be established by the school administrator. Salary placement to be
determined by the Paraprofessional & Aide Salary Schedule, as adopted by the Board of
Trustees. All terms of employment may be subject to change, as recommended by
administrative staff or as directed by the Board of Trustees.
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in
accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.

Education required

All paraprofessionals must have a high school diploma or equivalent AND (a) completed 32 credits at an institution of higher education (verified by college transcript); OR (b) obtained an associate's or higher degree (verified by college transcript; OR (c) received a passing score on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment (460 or higher) prior to beginning employment.
