PAY GRADE: Certified Salary Schedule
FLSA: Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal and Assistant Principals
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Days as designated per Negotiated Contract, with up to 15 additional days to be defined at a later date. Works on-site according to Principal's designated schedule. School Principal will designate or approve all additional days beyond the currently scheduled days needed throughout the school year.

SUMMARY:
To implement a preventative, proactive, and comprehensive school counseling program based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model. Counselor will work with students in grades 9 through 12 to promote student success by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and social/emotional needs of students. To inspire, engage, educate and empower every student.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. * Responsible (as part of the counseling team) for the development and management of a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model. Counselor will plan, organize, and implement the comprehensive program.
* Delivers and implement the guidance curriculum through the use of effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured classroom lessons and small group sessions.
* Implements the individual student planning component by guiding individuals and groups of students and their parents through the development of education and career planning.
* Implements responsive services through the effective use of individual and small group counseling, consultation and referral skills.
* Implements systems support through effective guidance program management and support for other educational programs.
* Meets with Administration at the beginning of each school year to discuss the counseling department management system and the program action plans using a yearly counselor/principal agreement to ensure accountability of the counseling program.
* Demonstrates current awareness of trends related to postsecondary opportunities for all students.
* Monitors students on a regular basis as they progress in school.
* Will develop, maintain, and implement an annual calendar and weekly calendars to have an efficiently run counseling program.
* Will develop a results evaluation for the counseling program.
* Will conduct an annual audit of the school counseling program.
* Uses data to establish goals and activities to close the achievement, opportunity and information gap.
* Uses data and develops strategies to effectively address policies, practices and procedures leading to successes, systemic barriers and areas of weakness.
* Will meet with the Counseling Advisory Committee throughout the school year to share the results of the counseling program.
* The counselor will be a system change agent and use the skills of leadership, advocacy and collaboration to create systemic change to improve the academic and career outcomes for all students.
* Initiates, assembles, maintains, and interprets accurate records, including cumulative progress records and uniform transcript records of assigned students.
* Attends various evening meetings.
* Travels between schools in Blaine County and to meetings/conferences as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of current principles, theories, methods, techniques, research, and strategies pertaining to the ASCA National Model. Ability to plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive counseling/guidance program for students at the high school level. Ability to work with diverse populations and cultures. Ability to teach school counseling competencies in a classroom. Ability to advocate for school counseling programs to all stakeholder groups. Participate in school counselor best-practice training at the local, state, and/or national level. Use data as a guide when deciding school counseling program direction and emphasis. Ability to effectively present information to, regularly interact with, and respond to questions from staff, students, parents, and the public. Understanding and knowledge of current technology. Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others. Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods and tracking budget expenditures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35% sitting, 30% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
