Preston School District #201 is currently seeking a highly qualified individual to Coach the Preston High School Girls Basketball Team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Idaho teaching license preferred, as athletics align closely with the educational goals of the district.
2. High school diploma or equivalent
3. Certification in first aid and CPR
4. Demonstrated knowledge of coaching and team management
5. Ability to ensure the safety of the students and promote skill development including sports training, conditioning, and injury prevention
6. Possess good organizational skills
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with students, parents, colleagues, and administration
8. Maintain confidentiality of staff and students
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with Student Athletes
1. Help student-athletes transfer lessons learned in practice and games to life by intentionally identifying and defining life skills and values such as teamwork, communication, leadership, decision making, problem-solving, relationship building, managing stress, empathy, and respect
2. Support the district’s educational mission for all students and implement all board regulations and policies by maintaining high standards of conduct for participants, including respect and fair play
3. Attend all tryouts, practice meetings, and in-school events, and supervise students during related trips and other out-of-school functions
4. Organize practice schedules and event rosters
5. Assign positions to participants, and develop routines for performances
6. Attend out-of-school meetings, supervise fundraisers, and help students prepare for competitions
7. Coach individual participants of varying abilities in the skills necessary for achievement on the basketball team
8. Arrange for any necessary transportation or scheduling of competition officials related to activities
9. Ensure the safety of the students and maintain responsibility for the security of equipment and facilities
10. Comply federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy pertaining to medical procedures and student athletes, including the district's concussion policy
11. Work with the high school administration and athletic director to establish academic performance criteria for students to be eligible to compete in interscholastic athletics.
12. Ensure that students are eligible to participate, and that they have had any necessary physical examinations
13. Actively promote the team, seek student participation, and select team members
14. Model positive behavior, maintain a supportive environment, and remain professional, even when tension is high
15. Abide by the rules of the Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA) handbook
Other
1. Prepare the team's budget, order necessary supplies and equipment, and maintain appropriate records related to activity expenses and revenues
2. Work with other coaches, parents, officials, operators of non-district facilities used for practice or competition as appropriate
3. Work closely with the athletics director in scheduling interscholastic contests
4. Evaluate the program annually and make recommendations for improvements as necessary
5. Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, and by reading professional publications
6. Represent the school district in a positive manner
7. Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
8. Perform other duties as assigned
