TITLE: School Bus Driver
PAY GRADE: Classified Salary Schedule
FLSA: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Transportation Director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Approximately 173 days per year. Daily split shift required; first shift usually occurring sometime between 6:00-9:00am and second shift sometime between 1:30-5:30pm.

SUMMARY:
Drives a school bus to transport students over a specified route according to a time schedule, complying with all traffic regulations, and to and from field trips and activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of previous driving experience preferred. Must currently possess or be able to obtain an Idaho Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, which includes having a good driving record and being able to pass a physical examination, a drug test, and State Skill/Written Tests. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Spanish language skills or bilingual/biliterate preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. * Drives a school bus to transport students over specified route according to time schedule.
* Drives a school bus to transport students to and from field trips and activities.
* Drives a school bus safely and professionally.
* Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections.
* Observes all mandatory safety regulations.
* Reports all potential safety hazards immediately to the Transportation Director.
* Complies with all traffic ordinances and Idaho State laws.
* Complies with guidelines set forth in the Idaho State Department of Education's School Bus Driver Manual and the Blaine County School District Policy and Procedure Manual.
* Participates in on-site training.
* Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school bus.
* Maintains orderly conduct/behavior on the bus.
* Reports student/passenger discipline to the proper authority.
* Assists in the administration of basic first aid.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of reading and interpreting maps, documents, and instructions, furnished in a variety of formats not limited to safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Skill in operating a computer, computer printer, copy machine, phone, fax machine, or other related office equipment. Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Skill in effectively communicating in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, students, and other employees of the District. Skill in interpreting and implementing a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to work in a friendly manner and to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements, Board of Education policies, and applicable State and Federal laws. Ability to communicate rules and instructions and exchange accurate information. Ability to communicate using various methods and tools, such as computers, paper, pens, radio, etc. Ability to observe while driving a school bus, such as traffic signals and signs, traffic, road conditions and hazards, etc. Ability to use medium or heavy equipment or machinery, including a school bus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The job is performed with indoor exposure including student noise and music, possible communicable diseases, or unruly students and outdoor exposure including variable temperatures and weather conditions, dust, pesticides, exhaust fumes, and smoke (seasonally). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stand, and walk; use repetitive motion; use hands to hold, move, feel and manipulate objects; reach with hands and arms; sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific speaking and hearing abilities required by this job include expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, shouting in order to be heard, and receiving detailed information through oral communication. Performs heavy work exerting up to 90 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
