POSITION TITLE: Vice Principal

REPORTS TO: Bishop Kelly High School Principal

SUPERVISES: Certified and classified staff members as designated by the
Principal of Bishop Kelly High School.

RATIONALE: Honoring the teachings of the Catholic Church and the traditions of Catholic education, the educator occupying this position will provide the school’s Principal with ongoing support in spiritual, administrative, and supervisory capacities.

To allow the Principal to devote a maximum amount of time to the supervision of instruction and the overall management of Bishop Kelly High School, the Vice Principal’s primary role will be to assist the Principal in every way possible, ensuring that the educational needs of the students are met and that the instructional needs of the teachers are answered.

To this end, the Vice Principal will support and reinforce the Principal in all matters dealing with the operation of Bishop Kelly High School and assist in planning, organizing, staffing, and directing the activities of the school.

It will be the role of the Vice Principal to work cooperatively with the Principal in planning, implementing, and supervising the instructional programs and activities of the school, as well as in accepting the delegated responsibility for those portions of the school’s operation identified by the Principal.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Principal with the implementation of school policies and programs.
Assist the Principal in supervising and evaluating faculty and staff.
Assist the Principal in assigning teachers to classes and special duties.
Assist the Principal in organizing the graduation ceremony.
Collaborate with the principal and other vice principal to assist with students’ academic, attendance, and behavioral needs.
Assist in the supervision of student activities (dances, proms, plays).
Arrange and conduct school-wide assessments (MAP, SAT, AP tests, etc.) and assist with the sharing of the data.
Assist counselors with the responsibility of student scheduling at the direction of the Principal.
Assist the Principal in sharing school programs with the community.
Meet with teachers, pupils, parents/guardians as needed.
Assist the Principal in conducting orientation for incoming students.
Assist the Principal in reviewing new textbooks.
Be knowledgeable of the goals in accreditation and strategic plan.
Maintain an effective, positive working relationship with staff.
Assist the Principal in arranging in-service workshops.
Prepare and submit all reports, as requested by the Principal, in proper writing and/or oral style and structure.
Portray an effective role model for staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members.
Be knowledgeable of new educational trends.
Complete additional assignments as directed by the Principal.
Be visible in the halls and other parts of the building.

QUALIFICATIONS:
For the position of Vice Principal of BKHS, the ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:

1. Have at least a Master's Degree and in keeping with the certification standards of the Idaho Department of Education, possess, or be capable of obtaining, within the period of certificate reciprocity, an Administrator Certificate with a principal endorsement, issued by the Idaho Department of Education.

2. In order to be an appropriate role model as a practicing Catholic, be a person of high moral standards with a reputation for integrity, vision, and imagination, and a lifestyle in conformity with the philosophy and teachings of the Catholic Church.

3. Demonstrate the qualities of flexibility, firmness, and consistency, so essential for dealing effectively with students, teachers, parents, and the general public.

4. Demonstrate exemplary skills in written and oral communication, and be willing to utilize these on behalf of the school in both private and public settings.

5. Demonstrate successful experiences as a classroom teacher or school counselor/building administrator.

6. Demonstrate strong relationship skills and the ability to build trust and confidence with faculty, staff, students, and parents.

7. Demonstrates values and behaviors consistent with the BK Way culture (attached).


EVALUATION:
The Principal evaluates the performance of the Vice Principal of Bishop Kelly High School annually. The evaluation of the Vice Principal will be guided by the mission of the school, the strategic plan, the role description, the input from staff, the goals proposed by the Vice Principal, and the Personnel Policies of the Diocese of Boise. A written evaluation shall be provided to the Vice Principal.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Terms of employment will be addressed in a written employment contract.
