9-12 MUSIC TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB SUMMARYTo provide students with a daily and ongoing instructional program that will provide forthem the best possible academic knowledge of musical techniques, analysis, interpretation,and history. To promote academic, social, and citizenship development through leadershipand classroom supervision.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS1. Idaho teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements, such as Music 6-12 or K122. Good background in teaching methods, developmentally appropriate classroomactivities, and effective classroom management3. Demonstrated knowledge of subject matter and effective teaching methods4. Familiarity with curriculum and the Idaho Core Standards5. Familiarity with the integration of technology with instruction6. The ability to maintain a positive learning environment7. Good working relationships with students, staff, and the public8. Good organizational skills9. Good interpersonal and communication skills10. Able to work under deadlines11. Maintain confidentiality of staff and studentsPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TOBuilding PrincipalMAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInstruction1. Prepare for assigned classes2. Design lessons with an appropriate level of difficulty that provide content in alogical and sequential manner3. Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the physical limitationsof the classroom and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groupsinvolved4. Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual EducationPlans (IEPs)9-12 MUSIC TEACHER25. Implement the Idaho Core Standards, as well as the school’s philosophy of educationand instructional goals and objectives in lesson plans, classroom instruction, unitplanning, and assessments6. Display command of the subject matter7. Budget class time effectivelyOther Duties to Students1. Encourage students to strive to meet their highest potential2. Establish and communicate classroom rules, and encourage students to set andmaintain standards of classroom behavior3. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-relatedpurposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so underreasonable terms4. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students andtheir parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assignedstudents5. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,materials, and facilitiesProfessional Contacts and Activities1. Attend and participate in faculty meetings2. Attend IEP meetings and collaborate with special education teachers as needed3. Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise4. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals,curriculum, objectives, and methods5. Provide needed and requested information on a timely and effective basisOther1. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules2. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by federal and state law,administrative rules, and Board policy3. Input data in a timely fashion4. Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth anddevelopment by attendance at professional meetings, membership in professionalorganizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journalsand other publications5. Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by theProfessional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education6. Seek assistance should emergencies arise7. Perform other duties as assignedEVALUATIONPerformance of this position will be evaluated annually by the building principal inconformance with school policy and IDAPA 08.02.02.120.9-12 MUSIC TEACHER3TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTBy contract as determined by the Board of Directors in accordance with federal and statelaw, administrative rules, and Board policy.NOTEAll certificated and non-certificated employees and other individuals are required to undergoa criminal history check and submit to fingerprinting.
